We would like to thank everyone who has made generous donations
to the Kabul Dance Studio this year. We received dozens
of shoes, leotards and costumes and are grateful for everyone's
willingness to get involved.
We would also like to thank the Slabaugh family for donating
a beautiful dance floor! We know this is the most amazing
dance floor in the entire region and are humbled by this
incredible gift.
Shipping the new floor to Afghanistan will cost
thousands of dollars! If you would like to become
a part of this exciting opportunity to bring joy to Kabul
dance students, please join our efforts
by making a donation to the Kabul Dance Studio
• When: The Kabul Dance Studio classes
will be held on Saturdays and will start the first week
in September 2008 and go through May 2009 (Scheduled times
to be announced).
• Location: We will meet at ISK for
classes.
This class is based on a fun, well-organized atmosphere.
Although they learn many skills to help their physical development
and coordination, the primary goal is to teach them how
to learn. Using age-appropriate songs and dances, this will
provide a nurturing, stimulating, yet structured classroom
specifically designed for this age. The class consists of
a blend of song and dance, pre-ballet and tumbling. Register

This class will teach basic ballet technique. Ballet is
the basis from which all other dance forms are derived.
It improves grace, coordination and confidence. The main
goal is to develop a positive attitude toward dance while
building a foundation of strength, grace, and self-expression.

Tap is a great way to improve rhythm, musicality and coordination.
Dancers will practice rhythmic patterns and combinations
with tap shoes. Register

This class is for students in junior high and high school.
Jazz and production work will be an important part of the
class, as well as an emphasis on developing a "performance
personality." It is during these years that dance can
have a great impact in developing confidence, grace, and
discipline. Classes will consist of ballet, tap, and jazz.

Anyone at any age can learn to dance, and in a very short
space of time you can gain a real sense of accomplishment.
While it may take a bit of patience, in three months you
will have picked up enough to really enjoy yourself! Register

Note: There must be a minimum of 4 enrolled in each
class (or class will be postponed).

The expression of movement through dance is an art
form that crosses all cultural lines. I discovered this
in a deeper way after we moved to Afghanistan. Years
ago my best friend and I talked about opening a dance
studio. We thought we were going to make it BIG! Eventually,
the reality of growing up, families and careers overshadowed
that childhood dream until I recently realized how much
I wanted our daughter, Ava, to experience what Kerry
and I had with dance classes, recitals, rehearsals and
costumes.
Boys in Afghanistan have far more opportunities to
be physical than girls and we want to be the feet of
new beginnings in this place. We are currently working
to open a small dance studio in Kabul to share dance
with those who have not had the chance to enjoy such
a beautiful expression. As we grow and discover how
to teach what we love, we hope to expand this art to
all interested girls in Kabul.
We are working to find sponsors and donors who are
willing to share their heart with these girls through
financial or tangible donations such as shoes, leotards,
tights, costumes, etc. Your gift helps reach girls who
otherwise may not have the opportunity to enjoy the
dream of one day becoming a ballerina!
