It is a challenge being at home all the time,
but I have spent more time reading, playing
and talking with the kids in the last two weeks then
I did in the last three months we were at home. They
love our rose garden! I am closer than ever to Jett,
and Ava is always on the go. She won't sit still for
a book or even stay in one place long enough to let
me play toys with her. But that will change, and it's
been great with Jett. I feel like I've actually made
up for him being the middle child! |

The school has a cook that makes lunch and
dinner. Ken picks up the food and brings
it home. For our family it's about $12 a day. It's
not cheap (compared to preparing the food ourselves),
but it's easy, healthy, and delicious. I love not
having to decide what to make for dinner!

It feels so good to be healthy and see the
kids being healthy! The food we eat is completely
fresh and each meal has fresh fruits and veggies.
Nothing is ever fried. And surprisingly the kids never
complain. At first they would ask for something different,
but now they're getting used to the food and actually
enjoy grilled chicken, melon, peppers, cucumbers,
spinach, rice, beans, and even plain yogurt! |

The mountains are beautiful. When
you drive around you feel the history and emotion
of everything this country has been though. It makes
you want to be here. Somehow
you feel that you are a part of something much bigger
than yourself, and you feel history is being written
about what is going on around you.

Regardless of the fact that there are so
many challenges here in Kabul, I KNOW I am supposed
to be here. That is the only thing that gives
me energy to keep pressing on…knowing beyond
a doubt, this is where we should be. Even though everything
in me wants to return to a normal American life, it
just feels right! |
